About this disc
This recording features music composed in memory of Basil Deane for a concert at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, in September 2007. It includes settings of poems by his beloved W. B. Yeats, including a work by his friend and colleague Sir John Manduell, which itself formed the nucleus of concerts in 2008 for Manduell's 80th birthday, inspiring a group of more works for a similar ensemble, which have been recorded by the same artists on a companion disc entitled “Orbits and Tangents”.

Basil Deane
Basil Deane (1928-2006) was a tv producer and documentary maker, a lecturer at Nottingham University, chair of music at Manchester University and director of music for the Arts Council of Great Britain. He held posts in Hong Kong and as Professor of Music at Birmingham University.
